Dr. Heike Brachlow is an internationally recognized artist and academic affiliated with the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London. As part of the School of Arts & Humanities and the Material Engagements Research Cluster, she explores the interplay of color, form, and light in cast glass sculpture. Her work combines Czech glass traditions with empirical color testing, focusing on material phenomena and process innovation. She teaches at the RCA and institutions like Pilchuck Glass School, while maintaining a studio in the Lake District.
Research Interests: Her studies emphasize color density thresholds in glass sculpture, flow patterns during casting, and nickel’s role in grey glass. Recent projects include exhibitions like Colour Connections (2022) and Chaos Theory (2016), which showcased dynamic light interactions. Awards include the 2017 Glass Seller’s Arts and Crafts Award and the 2011 Jerwood Makers Open Award. She has supervised doctoral students, including Jinya Zhao.
