Heike Bormuth

Dr. Heike Bormuth serves as Assistant Professor of Digital Education in History at the University of Tübingen's Faculty of Humanities, Department of History since June 2025. Her research bridges historical scholarship with contemporary digital educational practices.

Her research interests focus on Digital History Education, Historical Thinking Development, and Digital Historical Culture. She investigates how digital environments transform historical consciousness and develops frameworks for historical sovereignty in digital contexts. Her work emphasizes teacher training and inclusive pedagogical approaches for history education in digital societies.

Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong trajectory in digital history education research, with increasing focus on teacher perceptions, competency frameworks, and practical implementation strategies. Her work spans medieval history scholarship to contemporary digital pedagogy, demonstrating interdisciplinary methodological approaches.

Dr. Bormuth actively contributes to major research projects including digital:KLUG (BMBF-funded project within DiSo-SGW) investigating digital historical sovereignty and teacher conceptions regarding history education in digital contexts. She has developed diagnostic tools for inclusive history teaching and scaffolding methods for differentiated historical learning.

Her current projects include leading the digital:KLUG initiative and co-editing a special issue series on Generative Artificial Intelligence and History Education for the History Education Research Journal starting in 2025.
