Heidi Kristine Grønlien

Heidi Kristine Grønlien is an Associate Professor at the Department of Nursing, Health and Bioengineering, Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (HIOF). She holds a doctorate in physiology from the University of Oslo and University of Hawaii (2003). Her research focuses on cell membrane dynamics, hormonal plasticity, biomarkers, and integrating bioscience education through simulation and digital tools.

Research Interests: Grønlien explores cell membrane processes, light sensitivity in cells, and simulation-based learning in healthcare. She emphasizes linking bioscience concepts to clinical practice through innovative teaching methods like concept cartoons and digital resources. Her work bridges laboratory research (e.g., medaka fish endocrinology) with educational strategies for nursing and health sciences.

Publications: Her recent work includes studies on clinical simulation training for novice nurses (2025), active learning strategies using concept cartoons (2023), and blended learning approaches in anatomy education (2021). She has also published on cell biology topics, including medaka pituitary cell morphology and Tetrahymena vorax electrophysiology.
