Heidi Brevik-Zender

Heidi Brevik-Zender is an Associate Professor of French and Comparative Literature at the University of California. She holds a B.A. in French from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. in French Studies from Brown University. Her research bridges French and Francophone literature, visual media, and material culture, with a focus on fashion, gender, space, architecture, and modernity. Her current book project explores architecture and gender in 19th-century France, supported by a U.K. Fulbright Visiting Professorship at the University of Aberdeen.

Research Interests: Dr. Brevik-Zender examines fashion’s intersections with gender, space, and modernity, expanding into architecture and its links to poetry, photography, and archaeology. Her work highlights how material culture and visual media shape cultural narratives across historical periods.
