معرفی
Paul Hardin Kapp is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the College of Fine and Applied Arts. He is currently a Senior Fulbright Scholar and Fellow at CY Advanced Studies (CY AS), France, hosted by the research unit UMR n°9022 Héritages. His scholarly work focuses on the intersection of architecture, history, and political ideology, particularly in the context of iconoclasm and the historic environment.
His research explores how visual and architectural symbols are targeted for destruction due to ideological or emotional content, examining case studies from the French Revolution to the present-day Russian-Ukrainian War. This work situates architecture within broader socio-political narratives, questioning whether iconoclasm functions as historical record, artistic expression, or weaponized cultural warfare.
As a recognized expert, he has been invited to present his research at international academic forums, including a guest lecture at CY AS in March 2023. His current project investigates the institutionalization of iconoclasm in France, analyzing sites such as the Bastille Metro and the Pantheon as embodiments of contested memory.
