Heera Lee is a Lecturer and Director of the MS Human-Computer Interaction program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Her work focuses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), educational technologies, and affective computing for English Language Learners (ELLs). She investigates anxiety management through biosensor-based feedback systems to help instructors provide personalized support.
Her research combines physiological data analysis (e.g., electrodermal activity), cognitive self-reports, and non-verbal behavior tracking to address challenges faced by multilingual students. With 4 years of teaching experience at UMBC's English Language Institute and 2 years as a Teaching Assistant, her work bridges pedagogy and technology.
Lee is affiliated with the Immigration and International Information Research Alliance (i3r@UMD) and the Organizational Teams & Technology Society (OTTRS). Her research interests also include AI, computational linguistics, and information retrieval for culturally diverse learners.
Her publications explore anxiety subtypes among ELLs, biosensor applications in classrooms, and inclusive technology design for deaf/hard-of-hearing populations. While no grants or awards are explicitly listed, her work demonstrates sustained engagement with cutting-edge HCI methodologies.
