Dr. Kathleen Wood is a Professor in the Department of English at Gallaudet University, affiliated with the School of Language, Education, and Culture. Her work focuses on bilingual education, Deaf student equity, and innovative pedagogical approaches leveraging technology. She actively teaches courses such as Reading and Writing for Academic Research and Senior Thesis Project, emphasizing academic and professional communication skills.
Her research explores Generative AI’s role in fostering language equity for Deaf and non-native English speakers, supported by a Provost’s Grant. She co-presented at the National Security Agency’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Summit (2023) and contributed to Gallaudet’s Memorandum of Understanding with Bulgaria’s Deaf BG Organization.
Dr. Wood collaborates with the Visual-Centric Teaching and Learning (VCTL) initiative, developing resources for inclusive teaching practices. Her scholarship includes peer-reviewed articles and field guides on visual-centric pedagogy and overcoming language deprivation in Deaf learners.
