Heejin Chang

Dr. Heejin Chang is a Senior Lecturer (Pathways) at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), affiliated with the UniSQ College's English Language department. She holds a BSc from Sookmyung Women's University (1988), an MA in TESOL from Sookmyung Women's University (2004), and a PhD from Newcastle University (2012). Her expertise spans applied linguistics, ESL/TESOL pedagogy, teacher education, intercultural communication, and pathways programs.

Chang has held progressive roles at UniSQ since 2012: Associate Lecturer (2012–2015), Lecturer (2016–2024), and currently Senior Lecturer. She is actively involved in professional organizations such as the European Association for Computer Assisted Language Learning (EuroCALL) and the National Association of Enabling Educators of Australia (NAEEA). Her research emphasizes innovative language education strategies, particularly for multicultural and non-traditional student populations, and the integration of technology in learning environments.

Chang has received notable awards, including the USQ College Learning and Teaching Award for Excellence in Teaching (2020) and two USQ Publication Excellence Awards (2017 and 2016). She has contributed to grants focused on equitable assessments for incarcerated students, academic integrity frameworks, and intercultural competence development. Her work also explores the challenges faced by non-English speaking nursing students and CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) students in pathway programs.

Her recent publications reflect a focus on intercultural communication, L2 speaking fluency, assessment design, and technology-free STEM education for incarcerated learners. She collaborates widely on projects addressing academic integrity, pedagogical innovation, and inclusive educational practices.
