Prof. Hedda Wardemann is a Professor and Division Head of B Cell Immunology at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). Her career includes leadership roles such as heading a Young Investigator Group at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology (2006–2014), focusing on autoimmune diseases and malaria immunity. She transitioned to DKFZ to study cancer immunology, particularly how the immune system targets cancer cells. Her research integrates cutting-edge technologies like high-throughput antibody sequencing and single-cell analysis to understand protective immune responses.
Her research interests span B cell biology, vaccine development, and the interplay between immunity and cancer. Collaborations include work on malaria vaccines with the Max Planck Institute and Charité clinics. She emphasizes translating immunological insights into clinical applications, such as identifying therapeutic antibodies and improving vaccine strategies.
Wardemann’s team investigates human immune responses to pathogens and cancer, leveraging tools like spatial proteomics and flow cytometry. They also contribute to the NFDI4Immuno initiative to build an open immunological data infrastructure. Her work bridges fundamental immunology with translational medicine.
