Heather Wittels is the Director of Chamber Music at the University of Chicago and Artist Faculty at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts. She holds positions as first violinist in the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra and Concertmaster of the AIMS Festival Orchestra in Austria. Her orchestral affiliations include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, and Joffrey Ballet. A renowned performer, she has executed major violin concertos with critical acclaim, and her chamber music engagements span prestigious venues like the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series.
Education: B.Sc. in Chemistry (Yale University, cum laude), M.M. and Graduate Diploma in Violin Performance (New England Conservatory, studio of Malcolm Lowe). Fellowship highlights include New World Symphony and Tanglewood Music Center.
Her initiatives include creating a sold-out spoken-word/music salon series at Glimmerglass Festival and mentoring underrepresented students via the Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative. She has also served on music competition judging panels and delivered public masterclasses.
Notable awards include the 2007 Tourjée Alumni Award and multiple Tanglewood Fellowships. Her career bridges classical music performance, education, and community outreach through innovative programming and mentorship.
