David Taylor serves as Artist Faculty in Violin at the Music Conservatory of Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts. A distinguished orchestral musician, he has held the position of Assistant Concertmaster with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1979.
His educational background includes:
- Bachelor's and Master's degrees from The Juilliard School under Ivan Galamian and Dorothy DeLay
- Studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Margaret Randall and Rafael Druian
Taylor's expertise centers on violin performance and interpretation within classical traditions, with recognized excellence in solo and chamber repertoire. His critical acclaim includes praise for "well-focused tone, poised line, and aristocratic phrasing" (Chicago Tribune) during his fourteen CSO solo appearances under conductors like Sir Georg Solti.
As an educator, Taylor maintains active teaching roles at Roosevelt University, Moody Bible Institute, and through private instruction, with students now performing in orchestras across the United States and Japan. He performs extensively as violinist of the Pressenda Piano Trio, Concertmaster of the ArsViva Chamber Orchestra, and frequent recitalist at venues including the Ravinia Festival and WFMT broadcasts. His career also includes prior positions as Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Acting-Concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
