Heather Pennington is a Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University's Learning and Teaching Academy, where she plays a pivotal role in advancing teaching excellence through the AdvanceHE-accredited Education Fellowship Programme. She leads the Associate Fellowship pathway, serves as Mentor Lead, and contributes to the delivery of Fellowship and Senior Fellowship programmes. Her work supports academic staff across the university in developing their teaching practices and achieving professional recognition.
Her expertise lies in inclusive education, academic development, and educational leadership. As an active member of the Inclusive Education Project Team, she helps shape equitable and accessible learning environments. She also delivers CPD workshops to enhance teaching quality and has held significant leadership roles, including PGCE (Pcet) admissions tutor and placement officer, as well as academic lead on inclusion within the Academic Practice programme.
Heather is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, having held Fellow status since 2013, and completed the Professional Development Course for External Examiners in 2019. Her career spans both Further and Higher Education, with prior leadership roles at Cardiff and Vale College. She earned her PGCE (FE) from Cardiff University in 2003 and continues to influence pedagogical innovation and staff development across the institution.
She has previously held teaching and administrative roles in Cardiff University's School of Social Sciences, including Deputy Senior Tutor and Graduate Tutor Coordinator, until 2024. Her commitment to mentoring, inclusive practices, and academic support underscores her contributions to the university’s educational mission.
