Heather A. Howley is an Associate Professor and Director of Regional Campuses at the University of Akron's School of Communication, based in the Speech & Theatre Arts-Wayne department. She joined UA Wayne College in 2009 and holds offices in Wayne College and the Boyer HPE Building. Her research focuses on speech communication pedagogy, rhetorical analysis, and critical theory, with applications to health communication, education, class, and identity. She teaches courses including Introduction to Public Speaking, Effective Oral Communication, and Persuasion.
Dr. Howley earned a Ph.D. and M.S. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a B.A. (Honors) from Youngstown State University. She actively engages with professional organizations such as the Akron AAUP and the Working Class Studies Association, serves on the Orrville Public Library board, and is treasurer for the OCAAUP. Her community involvement includes volunteering at the MOCA House in Wooster.
Outside academia, she enjoys walking her dog, reading, cooking, and family time in Youngstown.
