David Szalay is a Professor at the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art, University of Akron, where he has taught graphic design and illustration courses since 2005. An award-winning illustrator and designer, he previously worked in graphic design and branding for Fortune 500 companies. His work has been featured in prominent institutions including the Museum of American Illustration, Library of Congress, and Akron Art Museum.
Szalay specializes in historical, cultural, and fantasy narratives, with illustration clients including Harper Collins, Penguin Random House, and Simon & Schuster. His research focuses on:
- Children's picture book illustration
- Hand-lettering techniques
- Editorial and advertising visual storytelling
Major recognitions include the Sakura Prize from Zenkoku Nihon Gakushikai and leadership roles in the Advertising Federation of Greater Akron.
