Tobias Hickey serves as a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in Illustration within the Art and Design Communication department at the School of Arts, University of Worcester, specializing in drawing, printmaking, and editorial illustration.
His academic qualifications include:
- BA Hons Graphic Design and Film Studies from Liverpool Polytechnic (1989-1992)
- MA Communications, Illustration and Graphic Design from Central St Martin's College of Arts and Design (1993-1996)
- City and Guilds 7307 Further and Adult Education Teacher’s Certificate from Morley College, London (1999-2002)
Hickey's research integrates illustration with social engagement through the International Centre for the Picture Book in Society (ICPBS), which he co-founded in 2015 to promote multiculturalism and inclusivity. His projects MIGRATIONS and SEA CHANGE manifest as international artist collaborations featuring touring exhibitions and publications addressing societal themes.
Prior to academia, he established a prolific career as an editorial illustrator with regular commissions for The Guardian, The Times, The Observer, The Independent, and clients including British Airways, Vodafone, and Harper Collins, with work published across Europe and Australia.
The International Centre for the Picture Book in Society (ICPBS) remains central to his current work, facilitating global artistic dialogue on social disenfranchisement and cultural diversity through co-produced creative outputs.
