Hazel J. Brown serves as Associate Dean (Academic Experience and Student Outcomes) in the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Winchester. Previously, she held roles including Head of Department and Programme Leader for Coaching degrees. Her academic journey began with a BSc (Hons) in Sport Studies from Chichester Institute of Higher Education (now University College), followed by an MSc in Sport and Exercise Science and a PhD investigating student experiences in sport degrees. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health.
Her research interests span coach education, sport pedagogy, higher education teaching methodologies, and wellbeing promotion. Notable work includes developing the Winchester Adolescent Wellbeing Scale and exploring barriers faced by Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) academics in UK institutions. She has secured research funding for projects on academic leadership diversity and BME staff retention strategies.
Dr. Brown has supervised numerous postgraduate research students focusing on sports coaching, wellbeing in education, and equality/diversity initiatives. Her published works address topics ranging from nerve injury rehabilitation to the benefits of sailing in school programs. She actively contributes to academic governance and policy development at institutional level.
