Hazal Bayar holds a BA in Communication and an MA in Editing from Bournemouth University (UK), followed by dual PhDs: one in Film Studies from the European Graduate School (Switzerland) with a thesis on 'Hysterical Female Characters in Horror Cinema', and another in Design Studies at Izmir University of Economics on 'Kawaii Horror'. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cinema and Digital Media at Izmir University of Economics.

Her research bridges Japanese cinema, horror subgenres, and subcultural analysis, particularly focusing on gendered symbolism and fashion in film. Her 2024 article explores ideological dimensions of school uniforms in Battle Royale, reflecting broader cultural and political narratives.
She has received critical acclaim for her documentary work, including the Best Documentary Award at the Adana Altın Koza Festival and a Silver Award at the Spotlight Horror Film Awards. Her experimental horror short Her Şey Sinirimi Bozuyor has been featured at numerous national and international festivals.
