Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gürata is a film scholar, critic, and festival curator currently serving as Chair of the Department of Cinema and Digital Media at İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi. He has held academic roles at Gazi University (1996-2010), Bilkent University (2010-2020), and visiting positions at Agder University (2018-2020) and Stockholm University (2020-21). His research focuses on Turkish cinema history, cross-cultural appropriation in film remakes, documentary practices, and media design.

Gürata's work examines the interplay between modernity, cultural representation, and cinematic adaptation. He has curated thematic programs for international festivals and served as international competition coordinator for the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.
As a film critic, he contributes to platforms including Altyazı Cinema Magazine and produces regular podcasts. His 2021 monograph Imitation of Life: Representing and Remaking Modernity explores these themes in depth.
