معرفی
Dr Hayley Young is an Associate Professor in Psychology at Swansea University, affiliated with the School of Psychology. Her research focuses on the interplay between nutrition, cognition, mood, and eating behavior, with a particular emphasis on glycemic control, hydration, emotion regulation, and interoception. She employs multidisciplinary methods spanning social, behavioral, and biological sciences. Her work explores how dietary factors influence sleep, cardiovascular function, and cognitive performance across lifespan stages.
- Career Highlights: Lecturer (2015-2017), Senior Lecturer (2017-2019), and Associate Professor (2019-present) at Swansea University.
- Teaching: Modules include Sport/Exercise Psychology and Nutrition & Behavior for third-year students.
Research Interests: Dr Young investigates how dietary carbohydrates, hydration levels, and interoceptive processes affect cognition, mood, and physiological responses. Key topics include:
- Glucoregulation and its impact on school performance and aging.
- Cognitive consequences of minor hydration changes.
- Neural and autonomic mechanisms underlying emotion regulation.
Grants & Projects: Recent initiatives include studies on glycaemic load and sleep (2019), fruit juice consumption in early development (2017), and hydration’s effects on brain function (2015). Collaborations include work with Prof David Benton on nutritional psychology and mindfulness interventions in correctional settings.
Advising: Supervises doctoral research on topics such as self-harm management through interoception, elite athlete performance, and plant-based diets’ cognitive impacts. Notable completions include studies on hydration-cognition links (2020) and frontocerebellar stimulation (2020).
Labs/Teams: Engaged in Swansea’s research environment, contributing to interdisciplinary projects on dietary patterns, mental health, and neurocognitive outcomes.
