Dr. Alecia Cousins is a Biological Psychologist and Lecturer in Psychology at Swansea University. She completed her PhD at Swansea and specializes in hydration, nutrition, and their impact on psychological and physical function across the lifespan. Her research examines how hydration status influences mood, cognitive function, and cardiovascular health in aging populations. She co-leads the UK Regeneration Network (UKRN) in Swansea, promoting open and reproducible science. Cousins teaches undergraduate modules including Cognition I: Basic Processes, Biological Psychology, and Nutrition and Behavior.
Education: PhD in Psychology from Swansea University.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on hydration's effects on mood/cognition, aging-related vascular health, health behaviors, and impulsivity. She collaborates with the School of Medicine on cardiovascular studies and leads the Swansea Nutrition, Taste and Cognition (SNAC) group. Recent projects include investigating sustainable food consumption patterns and mental health benefits of sports participation.
Grants & Projects: Secured £5,000 from the Institute for the Advancement of Food and Nutritional Science (2023). Collaborates with Hayley Young and others on interdisciplinary projects.
Labs/Teams: Co-leads UKRN Swansea and directs SNAC research group.
