Hassib Chehade is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) of the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and a Clinical Professor at the Faculty of Science and Medicine of the University of Fribourg. He serves as Head Physician of the Pediatric Nephrology Unit at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and is President of the Pediatric Renal Transplant Group at CHUV and HUG. His academic and clinical work is centered on pediatric nephrology, with a strong emphasis on renal function assessment and transplantation.
Education:
- Medical Degree and Doctor of Medicine (MD), Lebanese University, Beirut (2005)
- FMH Specialist in Pediatrics (2006)
- Interuniversity Diploma in Pediatric Nephrology, University of Montpellier (2008)
- FMH Specialist in Pediatric Nephrology (2008)
- MicroMBA, CHUV (2018)
His research interests include pediatric glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation, complement inhibition therapies for glomerular diseases, reduction of invasive uro-radiological procedures in children, and development of kidney transplantation from donors after circulatory death. His work integrates clinical innovation with translational research to improve outcomes in children with kidney diseases.
The recent publications reflect a consistent focus on refining GFR estimation methods using biomarkers like creatinine, cystatin C, and NGAL, validating these against gold-standard inulin clearance. Additional studies explore therapeutic strategies in nephrotic syndrome, renal transplantation, and tubular function, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to pediatric kidney disease. The articles span clinical trials, biomarker validation, and physiological assessments.
