Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, and Senior Scientist at CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute. He is a co-founder of the Canadian Virtual Hospice, the world’s largest repository for end-of-life care resources, and a leading authority in dignity-conserving care.

His research focuses on the psychiatric and psychosocial dimensions of palliative care, including depression, desire for death, will to live, and dignity therapy. His work has established global standards for person-centered end-of-life care and informed clinical practice through tools like the Patient Dignity Question (PDQ) and This Is ME (TIME) Questionnaire.
His publications, including the seminal 2007 British Medical Journal paper on the ABCDs of Dignity in Care, have been recognized with numerous awards such as the Prose Award (2012) and the Canadian Medical Association’s Frederic Newton Gisborne Starr Award. He has also co-edited the Handbook of Psychiatry in Palliative Medicine (Oxford University Press) and co-leads the Journal of Palliative and Supportive Care (Cambridge University Press).
