Hartmut Jaeschke is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Therapeutics at the University of Kansas Medical Center since 2006. A Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (ATS) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (FAASLD), his career spans academic positions at Baylor College of Medicine, University of Arkansas, and University of Arizona, as well as six years in the pharmaceutical industry (Upjohn/Pharmacia).

His research focuses on acetaminophen hepatotoxicity, investigating mechanisms of xenobiotic-induced liver injury, sterile inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and regenerative processes. Recent work explores ferroptosis, novel biomarkers (e.g., CXCL14), and hepatoprotective interventions using NAMs and small molecules. With over 520 publications and an h-index of 128, his work has >62,000 citations.
Scientific contributions include the 2019 Translational Impact Award and leadership roles in NIH study sections. Current affiliations involve advanced research in drug-induced liver injury, cell death pathways, and biomarker validation for acute liver failure.
