Harald Samuel is a Departmental Lecturer in Classical Hebrew at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (FAMES), University of Oxford (2021–present). Previously, he served as Deputy Professor for Prof. Dr Angelika Berlejung at Leipzig University (2020–21) and completed a Habilitation in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in 2020. His research focuses on the History of the Hebrew Language, Textual Criticism, Literary History of the Hebrew Bible, and the History of Research. He is a Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies and holds a PhD from Göttingen (2012, summa cum laude) and an MA from the same institution (2008).

His work emphasizes methodological debates in biblical studies, such as linguistic dating techniques and redaction-critical approaches to Second Temple-era literature. His Habilitation manuscript, Linguistic Dating—Fallstudien zu einer umstrittenen Methode, critiques controversial linguistic methods in biblical scholarship.
