Hans Svennevig is a Lecturer (Teaching) in Citizenship Education and Subject Leader for the Citizenship PGCE at University College London's IOE - Curriculum, Pedagogy & Assessment. With over 20 years of experience, he has led teacher training programs, managed academic teams, and taught secondary school subjects including Citizenship, Politics, and Sociology. His research focuses on citizenship education, disaster preparedness, and peace education, with contributions to journals like Teaching Citizenship (co-edited since 2018) and Education for Citizenship and Social Justice.
He actively participates in committees such as the IOE Athena SWAN Silver Self-Assessment Team, Ethics Committee, and the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education. His professional roles include serving on the ACT Council, ACT Trustees, and EU-COST Action frameworks on Citizenship & Climate Change. He has presented at international conferences, including the Council of Europe's 'Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania' (2020).
Recent initiatives include co-launching Teach Peace Secondary (2024), chairing the IOE Artificial Intelligence Ethics Task Group, and developing modules for UCL's Teaching Sustainable Futures series. He is also a member of the National Advisory Board for the Horizon/UKRI-funded G-EPIC project.
