Hans Hummer is a Professor of History at Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He specializes in medieval European history, focusing on political and social dynamics, kinship structures, and world history. Since joining Wayne State in 1999, he has been honored with teaching awards, including the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2015) and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Teaching Award (2005).

Awards and recognitions include the Board of Governors' Distinguished Faculty Award (2019 and 2007), a fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton, 2018-19), and a Summer Fellowship at the Max Planck Institut für Geschichte (2006).
