Hans Groeneveld is Professor of Financial Cooperatives at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM), Department of Economics, Tilburg University, where he holds an endowed chair. He teaches seminars in Financial Economics, focusing on central banking, monetary policy, bank business models, and ownership structures. He combines academic rigor with extensive practical experience from leadership roles at Rabobank and research positions at De Nederlandsche Bank.
His research centers on cooperative banking, banking regulation, and the impact of monetary policy on financial systems. He investigates how cooperative banks maintain distinctiveness amid isomorphic pressures and advocates for the revival of Raiffeisen’s principles. His work emphasizes social innovation, governance, and resilience in cooperative financial institutions.
His recent publication in Annals of Public and Cooperative Economics (2020) analyzes the balance between adaptation and tradition in European cooperative banks, especially in light of the economic disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
