Jan Marc Berk

Prof. Jan Marc Berk is a Full Professor of Money and Banking at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Economics and Business. He concurrently serves as Director of Resolution at De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), the Dutch central bank. His expertise spans monetary theory, policy, and financial stability, with a focus on European banking systems and central banking practices.

Berk holds MSc degrees from Erasmus University Rotterdam (1987, macroeconomics) and Tilburg University (1997, financial economics), and a PhD from Groningen University (1998). He previously led DNB's Economic Policy & Research and Statistics divisions and served as an associate professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a research fellow at the Tinbergen Institute.

His research emphasizes monetary policy frameworks, liquidity dynamics, and banking regulation. Recent work critiques the money multiplier concept in modern financial systems. He teaches 'Monetary Policy and Financial Regulation' at the University of Groningen.
