David-Jan Jansen is an Associate Professor at the School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and a Finance Research Fellow at Tinbergen Institute. He holds a dual role at de Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and VU Amsterdam. His expertise spans central bank communication, climate finance, economic history, and financial stability. Jansen earned a Dr. (PhD) in Economics from the University of Groningen (2006), an MSc in Economics (2002), and a BA in History from Utrecht University (2011). He has contributed to leading journals like Economic Policy and Journal of Economic Literature, and has held roles at the ECB, FSB, and IMF as a visiting scholar. In 2019, he received the GRASFI conference Best Paper Prize for research on energy transition stress testing.
His research focuses on the intersection of monetary policy communication and financial stability, with recent work addressing climate-related financial risks. Teaching includes supervising MSc Finance theses. Ancillary activities at DNB began in April 2021. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and economic resilience.
