Xuan Wang is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) and a Research Fellow at Tinbergen Institute. Previously, she worked as an economist at the Bank of England and earned her D.Phil. in Financial Economics from the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School (2020), alongside an MPhil in Economics (Distinction) from the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on macro-finance, international finance, financial intermediation, and sustainable macro-finance. She has organized major conferences such as the 2022 and 2023 Oxford-Saïd Macro-Finance Conferences and serves on the programme committees of leading academic events.
Education: PhD in Financial Economics (University of Oxford, 2020); MPhil in Economics (Distinction, University of Oxford, 2014); Clarendon Scholarship recipient (2015) and China Oxford Scholarship recipient (2012).
Research interests include the interplay between monetary policy and corporate debt, default risks in currency unions, and the role of financial intermediation in macroeconomic stability. Notable awards include being a finalist in the 2020 ECB Young Economist's Competition.
Teaching: Macroeconomics with Financial Frictions (PhD/MPhil level) at Tinbergen Institute and International Financial Management at VU Amsterdam. She supervises PhD, MPhil, and MSc students. Recent activities include organizing the 2025 Oxford-Saïd Macro-Finance Conference and presenting at global forums like the World Congress of the Econometric Society.
