Hannah Winther is a Research Fellow at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at NTNU. Her work focuses on moral philosophy with specializations in bioethics, animal ethics, and empirical ethics. She is a core member of the CRISPRWELL project examining ethical and regulatory challenges of genome editing in farmed animals.
Education: Doctorate in Philosophy (NTNU/University of Copenhagen), MSc in Science and Technology Studies (University of Oslo), Erasmus Mundus Master's in Philosophy (Université de Toulouse/Universität Bonn/University of Memphis/Univerzita Karlova), and BSc in Philosophy (University of Oslo with exchanges to St. Petersburg and Freiburg).
Research Interests: Bioethical dilemmas of genetic modification in aquaculture, moral attention to non-human animals, Wittgensteinian ethics, and the role of 'naturalness' in ethical debates. Active in public philosophy through Morgenbladet and as co-editor of the H//O//F philosophy series.
Publications highlight intersections between technology, ethics, and nature - recent works analyze CRISPR's implications for salmon farming, moral consideration of fish, and ethical narratives around environmental disasters. She frequently critiques anthropocentric ethics through lens of animal domestication and biotechnology.
Collaborations include interdisciplinary teams at NTNU and international scholars in ethics and STS. Her work bridges empirical research with philosophical analysis, emphasizing practical ethics in rapidly evolving biotechnologies.
