Dr. Hannah Harrison is an Assistant Professor in the Marine Affairs Program at Dalhousie University (Faculty of Science), located in Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia). Her work focuses on human-environmental relationships within marine social-ecological systems, emphasizing qualitative research in fisheries and coastal communities. She holds a PhD from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and previously served as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Guelph.
Research interests include salmon conservation hatcheries, Great Lakes fisheries governance, natural resource conflicts, and innovative science communication through films/podcasts. She teaches in the Master of Marine Management program, covering courses like MARA 5010/5011 and Coastal Zone Management. Her FishPeoplePlace Lab emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to understanding human interactions with marine environments, particularly in Nova Scotia and Alaska.
Recent work explores alternative seafood networks, hatchery policy debates, and food systems resilience. Publications analyze salmon enhancement programs' risks/benefits and highlight community-based conservation strategies.
