Hannah Dean is a Lecturer in Management at the University of St-Andrews' Business School. Previously, she held roles at Leeds University and Durham University. She earned her PhD from Bradford School of Management with a thesis on female entrepreneurship and economic growth discourse. Her research focuses on female entrepreneurs' contributions to the UK economy, social entrepreneurship, and qualitative historical methods. Key projects include a British Academy-funded oral history study of Yorkshire's female entrepreneurs and an interdisciplinary network exploring intersectionality in female entrepreneurship.
Her research interests span female entrepreneurship, economic growth narratives, and gender studies. She has organized exhibitions, workshops, and conferences on topics like gender and business history. Notable achievements include the 2017 Best Paper Award from the International Small Business Journal. Teaching includes courses on organizations, research methods, and entrepreneurship development.
Hannah’s work addresses UN SDGs related to gender equality and economic growth. She secured significant grants, including a £300,000 British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship and a £15,000 Rising Star Engagement Award. Her studies emphasize marginalized voices in entrepreneurship and the socio-political context of social enterprises.
