Hallie Bahn is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She holds an MFA in Visual Studies from Minneapolis College of Art & Design (MCAD) and a BA in Studio Art from Kenyon College. Her interdisciplinary practice merges animation, sculpture, and installation to explore themes of environment, memory, and human interaction. Bahn’s work has been exhibited globally, including at the Weisman Art Museum, Marinaro Gallery, and the Museo Memoria y Tolerancia. She has received grants such as the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council’s Next Step Fund (2020) and the Ethel Morrison Van Der Lip Award (2019).
Her research focuses on dissolving boundaries between digital animation and physical space, often using handcrafted materials like foam, clay, and LED lights. Notable works include Packed Lunch (2020), a mixed-media installation, and Model of Soo Line Dump (2022), an environmental diorama based on industrial site research. Bahn has taught at MCAD, the University of Minnesota, and the Perpich Center for the Arts, specializing in animation and interdisciplinary art.
