Dr. Hali Healy is a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. She holds a PhD in Human Geography from King's College London (KCL), an MSc in Development Studies from SOAS (UK), and a BA in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia (Canada). Her research focuses on political-ecological-economies, transdisciplinary sustainability science, and engaged scholarship. Key areas include social and environmental justice, resistance to extractivism, and urban well-being. She collaborates with activists and scientists globally, including projects on commons-based alternatives in South Africa and participatory counter-mapping in Xolobeni. At Birmingham, she contributes to the Centre of Urban Well Being (CUWb) through the WM-Adapt project, addressing local climate adaptation.
Dr. Healy is also a Research Associate at the Sustainable Europe Research Institute (SERI, Germany) and the University of Johannesburg’s GEMES Department. Her work bridges academic research with policy and community engagement, emphasizing participatory methods and global South contexts.
