Hak Joon Kim is a Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Information and Library Science at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), where he has served since 2010 and 2013, respectively. Previously, he held academic roles at SCSU as Associate Professor (2004–2010) and Assistant Professor (2000–2004), and briefly as Assistant Professor and Chief Librarian at Sejong University in Korea (1999–2000).

Research Interests focus on scholarly communication, electronic journals, human-computer interaction, instructional systems technology, and information retrieval. His work bridges library science with digital technology, examining workplace dynamics, cognitive impacts of digital tools, and institutional repository deployment.
Recent Publications highlight trends in library science and technology, including institutional repositories (2023), workplace bullying in libraries (2018), social media’s cognitive effects on seniors (2014), and digital vs. paper reading performance in teenagers (2013). These works span scholarly communication, human-computer interaction, and cognitive studies.
Grants include projects funded by SCSU and Connecticut State University, such as "Bullying among Library Employees" (2020–2021), "Health Informatics Course Development" (2024), and research on plagiarism in library schools (2003–2004). He has also presented at conferences like the CSCU Faculty Research Conference and Connecticut Library Association events.
