Hajime Mitani is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Educational Leadership, Administration and Research at Rowan University's College of Education. His research focuses on the intersection of educational policy and leadership, utilizing large-scale data and quantitative methods. Key areas include leadership practices affecting organizational performance, principal effectiveness, financial incentives for school leaders, and test score gaps in higher-order thinking skills.
Dr. Mitani holds a Master of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in K-12 Educational Leadership from Vanderbilt University's Peabody College. He teaches improvement science in the EdD program, guiding students in workplace improvement projects.
His research has been supported by an AERA-NSF Research Grant (2021) for work on financial incentives impacting principals. Notable projects include analyzing leadership skills, online educational leadership programs, and principal turnover dynamics under NCLB policies. His work spans topics like teacher labor markets, international education comparisons, and instructional practices enhancing critical thinking.
