Brendan Bartanen

Brendan Bartanen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Education Leadership, Foundations & Policy at the University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development. His research focuses on educator labor markets, examining intersections between educator turnover, effectiveness measurement, high-stakes evaluation systems, and diversity in education. He holds a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University (2019), M.Ed. from Arizona State University (2015), and B.A. from Pomona College (2013).

Research Interests: Bartanen's work spans quantitative analysis of principal effectiveness, teacher workforce dynamics, and equity in educational evaluation systems. Current projects investigate racial/gender biases in teacher observations, validity of principal value-added models, and returns to principal experience. His research employs advanced statistical methods and natural language processing to address systemic challenges in education policy.
