Jonee Wilson

Jonee Wilson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Special Education at the University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development. Her work focuses on equitable mathematics instruction for marginalized students, professional development for educators, and developing classroom observation tools to measure equity in teaching practices. She combines experiences from her career as a Baltimore high school teacher with her research to inform pedagogical strategies.

Her research interests center on:

• Designing instructional practices that honor marginalized students' mathematical identities
• Creating equitable mathematics classrooms through rubric-based coaching
• Supporting school leaders in advancing equity agendas
• Analyzing multilingual and special education contexts in mathematics learning

Key contributions include the Equity and Access Rubrics for Mathematics Instruction (VEAR-MI) validation and frameworks for liberatory learning with Black disabled students. Her work is supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and Spencer Foundation.

Awards:

Teaching focuses on mathematics methods courses that integrate her dual expertise as a former teacher and researcher. Current projects address equity in teacher coaching, multilingual mathematics classrooms, and confronting performative approaches to educational justice.
