Pamela Nicholas-Hoff is a Research Scientist at the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development, affiliated with Youth-Nex and the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning. She holds a Ph.D., M.Ed., and B.S. from UVA in curriculum and instruction, focusing on equity-based educational practices. Her research explores mindfulness and compassion interventions to reduce implicit bias and discipline disparities. Currently, she teaches mindfulness for educators and supports social and emotional learning initiatives.
Education: All degrees from University of Virginia – Ph.D. (Curriculum & Instruction), M.Ed., B.S.
Research Interests: Anti-Black racism’s impact on school discipline, equitable education policies, and mindfulness-based pedagogy. Projects include the Compassionate Schools Project and Project ENGAGE.
Awards: Recipient of prestigious grants like the AERA-NSF Dissertation Grant and fellowships recognizing her academic contributions. Inducted into the Raven Society for scholarly achievement.
Advising/Grants: Previously secured major dissertation funding; currently collaborates with Nancy Deutsch and Tish Jennings on research initiatives.
Labs/Teams: Active in Youth-Nex, a hub for youth well-being research, and works across departments to advance inclusive education practices.
