Hadley Z. Renkin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Gender Studies at the Central European University (CEU) and Director of the 2-Year MA Program in Critical Gender Studies. He holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Michigan and dual MAs in Anthropology and Gender Studies from CEU. His research focuses on postsocialist Eastern European sexual politics, queer theory, and the intersection of sexuality with citizenship and belonging. Current work explores the historical relationships between ethnography, evolutionary theory, and sexology in shaping modern identity categories.
His key research interests include public homophobia in Eastern Europe, neo-Orientalist moral geographies, and the politics of queer memory. Notable publications address Hungary’s LGBT movement, transnational temporalities, and the role of biopolitical mythologies in shaping European Otherness. He is revising a book manuscript titled *Disorientations: Queer Politics and Geotemporal Belonging in Hungary’s Postsocialist Conjuncture*, an ethnographic analysis of LGBTQ+ activism and resistance in Hungary.
Renkin has been involved in university-wide dialogues such as the 2017 seminar on *Otherness: Acceptance or Refusal?* His work bridges anthropology, sociology, and queer theory, emphasizing spatial and temporal dimensions of identity formation.
