Professor Rose's research focuses on the intersection of language, religion, and society in the early medieval period. Her work combines philological, literary, and historical approaches to examine how medieval communities used Latin texts to construct identity and social structures. She has made significant contributions to understanding the role of liturgy in preserving and transforming cultural memory, particularly through her studies of apocryphal traditions and saint veneration.
Her recent research has centered on citizenship discourses in early medieval Europe (400-1100), examining how ancient and biblical concepts of citizenship evolved in the post-Roman world. This work culminated in her NWO VICI project (2017-2022) and the forthcoming monograph 'Ritual Performance and the Discourse of Citizenship in Medieval Latin Liturgy'. Professor Rose has also led significant public engagement projects, including the 'Miracle of Saint Martin' festival in Utrecht (2022), celebrating the city's 900th anniversary.
