Gwen Daley is an Associate Professor of Geology at Winthrop University's Department of Chemistry, Physics, Geology & the Environment within the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Paleontology from Virginia Tech, an M.S. in Geology from the University of Cincinnati, and a B.A. in Geophysics from the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on paleoecology, taphonomy, and the paleontology of marine communities, with a particular emphasis on molluscan communities and predator-prey interactions. She has conducted fieldwork in Florida and Virginia, collaborating with institutions like the Smithsonian and Virginia Tech.
Dr. Daley teaches courses such as Physical Geology, Historical Geology, and Earth and Space Systems. Her research explores topics like shell fragmentation biases, lithification effects on biodiversity, and the ecological implications of borehole formation in bivalves. She has mentored undergraduate students in paleontological research and published widely in journals such as Paleobiology and Palaios.
