Gwangseok Rex Yoon

Gwangseok Rex Yoon is an Assistant Professor in the School of Marine and Environmental Programs at the University of New England. He holds a BSc in Marine Biology and Aquaculture from Pukyong National University, South Korea, and MSc/PhD degrees in Biological Sciences from the University of Manitoba. His graduate research focused on conservation aquaculture for endangered lake sturgeon, examining metabolic responses to environmental factors.

His research interests include conservation aquaculture, physiological responses of fish to environmental stressors, energy metabolism, and sustainable fisheries management. He leads the Conservation Physiology and Aquaculture Lab, investigating impacts of climate change on aquatic species.

He collaborates with indigenous communities, government agencies, and industry partners to develop species recovery protocols. His work bridges laboratory physiology with applied conservation strategies for threatened aquatic species.
