Prof. Dr. Gunter Schubert is a Chair Professor of Greater China Studies at the University of Tübingen since 2003, leading the Department of Sinology under the Faculty of Asian and Oriental Studies. He directs the European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan (ERCCT) established in 2008. His research focuses on modern Chineseness, cross-strait political economy, and governance in the PRC, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. He has held prior roles including Senior Research Fellow at the Protestant Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (Heidelberg) and visiting scholarships in Taipei and Hamburg.

- Award: Einstein Visiting Fellow Plus (2017-2019), Freie Universität Berlin
Teaching includes advanced courses on Chinese and Taiwanese political history, nationalism, and East Asian governance. He edits academic journals like International Journal of Taiwan Studies and maintains active field research networks across East Asia.
