Guillaume Sintès is a Lecturer in Dance at the University of Strasbourg since 2009, holding the academic rank of Maître de conférences (Associate Professor). He is affiliated with the Contemporary Approaches to Artistic Creation and Reflection (ACCRA) research laboratory and the Dance, Gesture and Corporality group within the Center for Historical Research (CRH). His work focuses on dance history, choreographic practices, and cultural memory.
Specializing in the choreographer's profession, dance archives, and memory preservation, Sintès examines historical moments like the 1968 student uprisings through dance. His research spans institutional history, pedagogical transmission, and regulatory frameworks in French dance education. He has published extensively on Karin Waehner, Michel Descombey, and the professionalization of dance since the mid-20th century.
His recent publications analyze walking as performance, dance pedagogy, and archival practices. Sintès frequently collaborates with researchers across Europe on transnational projects examining dance history through political, social, and institutional lenses. His work demonstrates consistent engagement with how dance intersects with broader cultural and political movements.
Sintès maintains active roles in academic communities through conference organization and editorial work, particularly around dance memory and transmission. His research methodology combines archival analysis with oral history and institutional critique, focusing on how dance knowledge is preserved and transformed across generations.
