Guilherme Assis de Almeida

Guilherme Assis de Almeida is a Professor in the Department of General Theory and Philosophy of Law at the Faculty of Law, University of São Paulo (USP). He holds a Ph.D. in Law from USP (2001) and has served as a Senior Researcher at the Center for the Study of Violence (2002–2006). He has held prominent roles including President of the National Association on Human Rights (ANDHEP) and Human Rights Advisor for organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Research Interests: Focuses on Philosophy of Law, Human Rights frameworks, legal theory, and interdisciplinary studies of violence. Engages with public policy design and social justice advocacy, particularly through institutional collaborations.

Advisory & Grants: Extensive experience as a Human Rights Advisor for UNDP (2005–2006), IADB (2007–2008), and Brazil’s Federal Government (2002–2003). Collaborates with NEVUSP on criminological and sociological legal research.

Labs/Teams: Active in the Center for the Study of Violence (USP) and the interdisciplinary group “Subject, Speech and Institutions.”
