Dr. Gregory Young is a Professor of Music at Montana State University (MSU), affiliated with the College of Arts & Architecture and the School of Music. He joined MSU in 1988 and has held leadership roles including Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Assistant Dean, and Director of the School of Music. His expertise spans clarinet performance, music composition, and undergraduate research pedagogy. Young earned a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Western Ontario (1982), and M.M. and Ph.D. in Music from the University of Michigan (1983, 1987).

- Research Interests: Undergraduate research pedagogy, original music composition, clarinet performance, and interdisciplinary arts education.
His creative work includes compositions like Montana Vignettes and Rocky Mountain Elk Suite, performed by the MSU Wind Symphony at the Kennedy Center. He has authored/co-authored textbooks such as Undergraduate Research in Music (2017) and Insights into Music Composition (2022). Young has also led initiatives like the MSU McNair Scholars Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, and served as clarinetist with the Intermountain Opera and Bozeman Symphony Orchestras.
