Professor Gregory Webb holds the Dorothy Hill Chair in Palaeontology and Stratigraphy at the University of Queensland and leads the Integrated Palaeoenvironmental Research Group in the School of Earth Sciences. His research investigates carbonate systems, reef development, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction using geochemical proxies.
Research interests focus on understanding biosphere-lithosphere interactions through geological time, with applications in paleoclimate reconstruction and resource exploration. Current work examines Great Barrier Reef evolution, microbialite geochemistry, and carbonate sedimentology.
Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on reef response to environmental change, integrating field observations with geochemical analysis to reconstruct past climate conditions and ecological transitions.
As head of a major research group, Professor Webb mentors graduate students and leads field expeditions to study modern and ancient reef systems globally.
