Professor Gregory E. Webb holds the Dorothy Hill Chair of Palaeontology and Stratigraphy at the University of Queensland's School of the Environment, Faculty of Science. He serves as an Affiliate of the Centre for Marine Science and leads the Integrated Palaeoenvironmental Research Group. With over three decades of academic career, Professor Webb is an internationally recognized expert in carbonate systems and reef evolution.

Professor Webb's research focuses on the fundamental question of how organisms make rocks – specifically how the biosphere interacts with the lithosphere through geological time. His work bridges multiple disciplines including carbonate petrology, reef palaeobiology, geomicrobiology, and carbonate geochemistry. A central theme in his research is understanding how these biologically influenced rocks preserve evidence of past environmental conditions through their geochemistry, with significant implications for Earth history reconstruction and paleoclimatology.
